On 17 and 18 August 2024 in Piazzatorre, Bergamo, the 2024 BikeTrial World Championship took place, a really successful event, let's summarize it in this article
The World BikeTrial Championship 2024 was held in Piazzatorre on 16, 17 and 18 August 2024 where the specialists of this Original Sport met from all over the world.
Piazzatorre proved to be the ideal place for an international BikeTrial race with natural sections entirely set up within the Trial Area of the TZ Team, a section of the Moto Club Bergamo, which has the fortune to to manage such a beautiful and huge Trial area. The invitation made by Mr. Paolo Cassani to organize the race right here was completely spot on, perfect logistics areas for us. After a brief survey with the main Italian BikeTrial groups and taking note of the willingness to cooperate on the part of everyone, first of all Dynamic Trial and Valli del Canavese with the tireless Roberto Beroggio, we got to work starting from February.
Already on Wednesday the Municipality of Piazzatorre has made available the beautiful facilities of the Sports Center and, coordinated by the Mayor Mr. Valeriano Bianchi who was with us during the salient phases of the event and the whole Sports group of Piazzatorre led by Mr. Cristian Paleni, we organized free camping for all participants.
On Friday 16 August 2024 we recorded the registration of 160 Riders from 13 different countries, a success of participants that made everything even more beautiful, not without some logistical and organizational problems. Taking note of the high number of participants arriving, it was opted to set up additional sections for both Groups A and BH, and carry out 2 separate races, one on Saturday for Group BH and one on Sunday for Group A, but both with 8 sections set up in the previous days and on Friday by all the volunteers who have lent many hours of work for the perfect success of the event.
At 6 p.m., as scheduled, the Open Ceremony with the presentation of the teams and a fun speech by Alessio, by Samovar Company, in the role of Harlequin who, legend has it, was born here, in the Brembana Valley.
On Saturday 17 August 2024 from 9:00 a.m., one per minute, the 131 participants of the BH Group started, white, green and blue zones, very long queue at the first zone but with 7 hours to finish the two laps on which the 8 entirely natural zones were arranged. Sunny day but attenuated by the shade of the beautiful pine forest of the Piazzatorre valley.
The best who at the end of the Group B and H race won the coveted title of 2024 BikeTrial World Champion were:
- Lea Kucova from Slovakia, Category Class F
- Pau Roma Sala from Catalunya Category Under 10
- Josef Burianek from Czech Republic Category Under 12
- Jordi Sala Hernandez from Catalunya Category Under 14
- Eddie Weightman from United Kingdom Category Under 16
While the winners of the 2024 BikeTrial World Cup were:
- Morgan Remy from France in Hobby 1
- Raul Martinez Carrasco from Spain in Hobby 2
- Tomas Mudrych from the Czech Republic in the Hobby 3
On Sunday 18 August 2024 from 9:00 am, under pouring rain, the 30 participants in Group A took off, Red and Yellow zones, the most challenging and made even more insidious by the rain that accompanied the day until the awards ceremony. Oliver Weigthman showed off a clean, precise and consisten riding on these sections, deservedly conquering the first final position in the Class 1.
At the end of the day, the 2024 World BikeTrial Champions, Group A are:
- Oliver Weightman from United Kingdom, Class 1
- Elia Orfino from Italy, Class 2
- Raul Hinarejos Zapater from Catalunya, Class 3
In view of the incessant rain, it was decided to have an Award Ceremony indoors, inside the meeting room of the Piazzatorre Sports Center with a prize to all participants in the hope that it was appreciated and that a good memory of this experience remains.
With this race, the international 2024 BikeTrial season ended, we are already working for next season, I hope that the enthusiasm aroused by this event will also be able to materialize for the races of the upcoming new season 2025.
